Habtoor Polo advances to the semi-finals of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup at the prestigious British Polo Open Event

Mohammed Al Habtoor’s Polo Team, Habtoor Polo, qualified for the semi-final of the prestigious Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup at the British Open Polo Championship in Cowdray Park, UK after defeating RH Polo 12 goals to 10 in an exciting quarter-final match.

The team, which included Mohammed Al Habtoor (0) as patron of the team; Nicols Pieres (8), Francisco Elizalde (7) and Patrick O'Dwyer (6).

“This is a great victory for Habtoor Polo and the UAE. We are proud to represent our country in such a prestigious tournament,” said Mohammed Al Habtoor. “We are delighted to reach the semi-final, and will do are best to make it to the final.”

Habtoor Polo, led by Mohammed Al Habtoor, Vice-Chairman and CEO of the Al Habtoor Group, got off to a flying start in their quarter final match against RH Polo, scoring 3 goals in the opening minutes and ending the chukker with a 3-0 lead.

In the second chukker, RH Polo made a good comeback by scoring 3 goals to even the score, but a stunning goal by Fran Elizalde ended the chukker 4-3 in favor of Habtoor Polo.

Habtoor Polo maintained the lead by scoring 2 more goals, Nico Pieres once again bagging a goal to end the chukker by 6-3.

In the fourth chukker Fran Elizalde scored at a crucial moment and brought Habtoor Polo ahead by 8 goals to 7. Mohammed Al Habtoor and the squad kept their pace in the fifth chukker, scoring 3 goals.

The last chukker saw an intense battle between both teams. RH polo scored 2 goals in the opening minutes but the Habtoor Polo Team scored the final triumphant goal to win the match at 12-10.

Habtoor Polo with play the semifinals on Wednesday, 19th July 2017 against King Power Foxes at Cowdray Park Polo Club.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup is played to decide the British Open Polo Championship and is the premier polo tournament in the world at 22 goals (High Goal) level. With all the international stars of the game in action in the incomparable setting of Cowdray Park’s famous ‘Lawns’, the event draws in polo aficionados from all over the globe.

Mohammed Al Habtoor is founder of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, founded in 2009 and recognized by the World Polo Tour in 2012.
